Promoting Your Book Through Industry Associations

Every professional belongs to an industry. Every industry has an association. Every association is committed to introducing its members to new content and ideas that will help them with their careers.

The American Bar Association includes more than 400,000 members. The National Society of Accountants represents 30,000 independent practitioners who provide accounting, tax, auditing, financial and estate planning, and management services to 19 million individuals and businesses. The American Medical Association has 240,000 members. The Small business association is comprised of 65,000 companies across all 50 states.

Depending on your industry, the membership of these associations represents a highly qualified audience for your book.

How do you get your book into their hands? Follow a one-to-many strategy. It would be extremely expensive and time consuming to try and reach each member of your industry association by yourself. So instead, target just one prospect: the association.

Every industry association produces newsletters, conferences, seminars, and continuing education courses. Reach out to your association and position yourself as a bestselling author and industry thought leader. Offer to speak at a conference, run a seminar, or write a series of articles at absolutely no cost to the association. You’ll do it at no cost because the association isn’t your end customer.

The end customer is the association’s membership. Whenever you write or speak to these members, always make sure that your professional biography promotes your bestseller expertise. Also include a link to your book on Amazon.

Do this and very quickly, you’ll become the “go-to” person whenever these individuals or their clients have a problem and need your professional services.
